Paul Pignon co-founded the Radio Belgrade Electronic Studio in the 1970s, using a Synthi 100 that was imported from the UK to the heart of Yugoslavia. Returning to Belgrade and approaching retirement, he hopes to spread his ethos and passion for autonomous music-making. Through unconventional music-making methods and underground events, he hopes to capture the 80s spirit of new ideas, experimentation and freedom.

The project’s site is in Belgrade’s Oasis, a suburban area thirty minutes from the centre. The building seeks to apply a synthesiser ideology to the techniques of rammed earth construction and sorting aggregates, where thick acoustic walls are emphasised by lightweight steel and timber kinetic elements that allow the building to change over time and be operated as if were a synthesiser.

The project is documented in a three-act film, documenting 40 years of change. It begins with Paul and his synthesiser, before showing the site - a place for musical production and finishing at the DEV9t festival day, where the principles of electronic music-making and broadcasting are enjoyed within the anthropomorphic-like building.
