Bass seeps through the concrete of the barn. It stretches through and around, it transforms into a drum-kick in one room and morphs into a riff in another. As the techno begins to form, what we know to be a barn begins to dissipate.
The project designs a series of dance floors that sprawls across the barn. It sits on the outskirts of the city, a space for Berlin techno artists and clubgoers to escape and fully immerse in the architecture and art of the music. Although the same track plays through, the track distorts across the different rooms and dance floor.
Through developing the instrumental and technical of techno, the project attempts to create a spatial condition that pushes a reconnection to people and places. The Techno Barn uses acoustic experiences to distort and alter one’s perception of time and space.
Navigating through the barn, different soundscapes and physical spaces are formed. The paths and journeys taken change and alter the perception of space.
