The Convoys Wharf Colour Factory and Learning Centre is a grade II listed warehouse renovation project, challenging the master plan proposed by the developers. The building aims to benefit both the local and wider community by reviving the site’s history and translating it to contemporary demands. The application is designed to provide jobs to the unemployed and create experimental space for local residents while also providing Deptford with a new travel destination.
The design procedure seeks to integrate the proposed building into the existing structural frames, maintaining the warehouse’s integrity. This seeks to create a dynamic and interruption-free interaction between old and new that maximises the internal space by using the horizontal truss as the main spiral structure from which to attach the proposed building. This both embraces the site’s history and creates a bespoke space for visitors and staff, bringing the abandoned building back to life.
Final Building Model's Scale: 1:250.
