The Pigneto Primary School challenges traditional education models, operating at the intersection between gymnastics apparatuses and the pedagogy of play to reinvent the learning landscape. A new, flexible form of learning is therefore proposed, embedded with playful developmental opportunities that nurture the changing physical and psychological needs of the students. The evolving posture of the building facilitates a journey of experimental learning through the senses, ultimately reconstructing the learning landscape as a place that fosters invention, connection and discovery.
The potential for play is embedded within the bodies of adjustable furniture: The moveable joints choreograph a room of wonder that activates both the body and mind.
The adaptable joints nurture children’s innate curiosity to discover, allowing them to play an active role in constructing their environment in a cycle of creation, reinvention, and reuse.
The central courtyard encourages learning to bleed into the communal space, fostering spontaneous collaborations and connections and allowing both body and mind to be activated.
The rhythmic schedule of the retractable roof is in tune with the natural environment, allowing students to forge a deeper connection with their surroundings.
The school façade hints at the playful landscape within. The entrance invites students inside to begin their journey of discovery.
