An acoustic orchestration of a Brussel’s metro station to momentarily accompany the lonely traveller on their daily commute. Instruments have been devised from usual station infrastructure to bring metro travel to life. As the lonely traveller embarks on their daily commute through the city, moments of interaction between the traveller and the architecture in the station have been orchestrated to compassionately guide and accompany users through the spaces. The instruments also hold their own capacity to occupy space as they conduct the station’s vibrations to be released acoustically through careful fabrication. Working closely with the acoustic and vibrational possibilities of metal fabrication to provide the architecture with a voice of its own. The instrument design has been iterated through playing and vibration tests, uncovering their resonant frequencies and acoustic potentials.
Interactive wearable that explores the acoustic potential of a hug.
Instruments held within the station at ticket hall level and platform level.
Playing the modelled structures.
A performance within the platform accompanied by a subwoofer to activate train vibrations.
Proposed sound from the ticket barriers drawn with light in plan to illustrate the acoustic behaviours reflected off the accompanying structures.
