Living with Soil is a project about using digital manufacturing methods to function at different scales to plan and resolve the physical additive manufacturing method of clay printing. The project seeks to investigate the storage and spatial management of on-site soil to reduce the amount of off-site manufacturing.
It develops a high-rise earth construction along with termite mound inspired basements using solely on-site soil. The tower will also investigate building with bioremediated London soil. Living with Soil further explores how to create cavities within earth walls that can host plant life on the inside of the structure, and on the exterior, attract animal life such as birds and bees which typically relocate after redevelopment projects.
The project aims to revolutionise urban redevelopment by creating a mixed-use green corridor that preserves the existing communities and light industries in the Euston area, extending north towards Camden as part of the ongoing High Speed 2 (HS2) project. The main users of this redevelopment will be local light industries, such as tailors, craftsmen, and artists.
