Silvertown Battery Park is inspired by Saloman House, a fictional scientific institute imagined by Francis Bacon in his 1626 utopian novel New Atlantis, which envisions a future where science and technology improve and enrich quality of life.

The project imagines Silvertown Quays as a scientific testing ground, portraying every possible and impossible technology that could support the local off-grid energy system. Located at the centre of an area undergoing large-scale urban regeneration, Silvertown Battery Park is an innovative energy infrastructure and a vibrant public space for local communities.

The dockland waterscape and the site are turned into a solar panel blanket that captures the energy, and the five battery landscapes store the energy for off-peak usage. The techno-parkscape demonstrates bold and trivial science imagination in a playful and immersive way. The working infrastructure celebrates the industrial history of this area and ushers Silvertown into the next technological era.

The Penguin Island

The Penguin Island

As a modern version of Saloman’s House, Penguin Island ‘possesses every possible and impossible technology that one could think of’. It is a scientific institution that tests and demonstrates bold and trivial science imagination.

Silvertown Battery Park

Energy infrastructure as a new mode of urban landscape and public space.

Layers of the Park

Layers of the Park

The park is composed of four layers of architectural elements: a grid walkway system, a solar panel surface with green edges, a toolkit architecture layer, and five battery landscapes.

Five Battery Landscapes

Five Battery Landscapes

Each battery landscape employs natural material as a renewable resource for energy storage. The technologies are demonstrated as spectacles, also combined with community facilities that can serve local people.

A Journey through the Park

A Journey through the Park

In Silvertown Battery Park, the invisible processes in energy infrastructure are turned into sensational experiences. The technologies are tested and demonstrated in performative landscapes.
