Serving as a mediator between London's dense urban development and Bostall Heath Forest, this project aims to harmoniously merge these two environments. Natural materials extracted on-site are utilised to create complex, almost Brutalist forms, highlighting the project's materiality and connection to its surroundings. Beyond its construction, this endeavour explores the symbolic potential of materials in terms of use, reuse and artistic expression. Small meadows and divots along the perimeter integrate the project into the natural landscape, evoking a sense of geological formation or uncovered archaeological ruins.
The terraced landscaping strategy harmonises with the hill's gradient, blending into the forested surroundings and evolving into a complete ruin, completely engulfed by the surrounding forest.
After meticulous clay molding and casting, the user enters a challenging environment where they must navigate to find the kiln, forming a recurring complication in the order of steps in pottery making.
Interior collage of the pottery studio blurs indoor and outdoor spaces, offering extensive vistas along the desk at ground level.
