Studio 3 invites students to think about architecture in the fourth dimension; as something temporal, as well as physical. Architecture is something live, dynamic and negotiable. This year, Studio 3 looked to seed the 'infrastructures of disorder' as architectures of amplification and antagonism. As Vito Acconci remarks: “space is there to advance the plot”. But who’s plot and with what imminence? The unit aims to expand the designer’s toolkit by encouraging experimental making, digital design and prototyping with programmable electronics, industrial fabrication and performance.
Cocoon of Intimacy explores encounters at carnivals and translates their levels of intimacy through psychologies of enclosure and proxemics.
Guiding Beacons communicates what is beneath the surface of this seemingly pleasant disposition; a sense of instability and rupture that threatens to disturb the present equilibrium.

The project explores carnival encounters and translates intimacy levels through enclosure and proxemics. During the parade and performance, students wore colourful garments created as part of their exploration and design development.
The adaptable space embodies a gradient of intimacy to allow people with varying comfort levels to encounter each other in the same space without feeling out of place. The aim was achieved by manipulating the volume, proxemics, and visibility.

The inflatables are attached to an elevated curved platform, which provides a respite from the chaotic scenery. A car-like mechanism that governs the behaviour of the inflatables from below explores the symphony of motion and detection of sound.
