Climate change poses a threat to coastal areas, including British seaside resorts, with rising sea levels endangering their rich heritage. School of (Bio)rock pays homage to Great Yarmouth's beach spa traditions and addresses the challenges of youth unemployment and sea-level rise by creating a dynamic thalassotherapy retreat and teaching facility within the sea.
The complex comprises electrified steel modules that stimulate the growth of biorock. Over time, more modules can be added, gradually expanding the complex and connected by floating footbridges to create a sprawling reef of cavern-like spaces.
This innovative reclaimed land approach embraces sea-level rise instead of resisting it, allowing lost land on the Great Yarmouth mainland to be relocated to the expansive biorock reef. This opens up flexible opportunities for accommodating other tourist activities.
