The construction of five small wooden theatres is envisioned to be located on Southwark Bridge, near the site where Shakespeare's original Globe Theatre was dismantled and relocated to the South Bank. This concept aims to provide an immersive experience, where spectators embark on a journey through each theatre to witness different acts of a Shakespearean play while traversing the bridge from the south to the north bank. Shakespeare wrote his plays without distinct separations, only differentiating them by setting and they were later posthumously divided into five acts. This immersive experience attempts to reintroduce the notion of changing locations within the play.
To ensure seamless transitions for the actors, the dressing rooms and backstage areas are situated beneath the theatres. This underground arrangement allows the main performers to move between the theatres, smoothly progressing through the narrative. The design ensures that the area beneath the stage remains hidden from the audience's view, preserving the immersive and enchanting atmosphere of the performance, while also providing glimpses of the River Thames for the audience between acts.
