EcoStage is a permanent residence and infrastructure for year-round music festivals, aiming to reduce the waste and emissions associated with temporary festival setups.
The building also functions as a hub for experimental music practice and teaching. Its design embraces a playful theme, featuring vibrant colours and an innovative layout. The festival accommodation incorporates elements of luxury festivals, including amenities like robes for showering and a laundry network spread throughout the building. This network efficiently distributes clean laundry to the rooms after individuals have bathed in the baths.
The building is an adaptive reuse of the site surrounding Hangar Centre for Arts Research in Barcelona. This centre aims to give support for art research and sound production, and by expanding into a festival site more sound studios and artist residencies can be provided. Furthermore, the festival aimed at preserving as much as the original ruins of the site as possible. By combining permanent festival infrastructure, music education, and a playful design, this building offers a sustainable and immersive experience for both festivalgoers and residents.
This section through the length of the residential building shows chronological movement through the facilities. The occupants use the thermal baths at the end of the day to wash off and then move upwards to use the bathrooms before bed.
Laundry facilities emerge from the existing buildings and drying clothes animate the festival performances.
Festival goers can balance between the simple and the luxurious. Bedrooms have reclinable mattresses, as well as retractable tables, fridges, and more. Changing rooms have curved walls that enable people to swiftly get ready for bed.
This site map shows the agencies of the laundry tower to the thermal baths and the rooms. The proximity of the nightclub to the baths, as well as the access from the music studios to the outdoor stage.
