Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief

Project details

Programme
Year 3

Exploring the current state of housing in the United Kingdom, this project investigates how individuals interact in political discourse. It transforms Elizabeth Magie's The Landlord's Game into a new social intervention called EQUALITY STREET: Empathy Trading Game. The game incorporates contemporary housing solutions and identity disparities, offering a cohesive board game experience. The game is then used as a prop in a social experiment that documents the interactions of six London residents, each with a unique relationship to housing. By introducing randomly generated Character Cards, the project aims to capture the complexities of lived experiences. Through observational filmmaking, we witness how these individuals navigate divisive and controversial public matters in the context of unequal wealth and cultural capital.

One of the participants in the experiment is Sean Louis MBE, a self-proclaimed compulsive liar from South London. He currently operates from the spare room in his parents' house in Wallington. Sean identifies as a straight white male.
