This project investigates the creative capacity of a database, examining its capacity to visually portray the relationships between artefacts and to inform a building’s design. This design tool enables the re-interpretation of cultural historical narratives and opens discussions on the interconnected character of different cultures and their heritage. Moreover, it empowers the viewer/manipulator of the database by granting them curatorial control to express their own unique interpretation of heritage.
The Florence heritage database not only informed the design of the building it also created a digital layer of information on the heritage of the city that the building embodies that could be visualised through alternative reality (AR) / virtual reality (VR) immersive experiences.
