Embedded in the eastern periphery of the settlement, the theatre plays the role of creative centre, serving as a cultural nexus that integrates the distinct regions of the new settlement, Cley-next-the-Sea, and the marshland. It is a dynamic space designed to foster unity amongst residents by supporting local artists and enriching the cultural landscape of the region, embodying the essence of the local culture, by interweaving art with nature.
The theatre is an amalgamation of assembly room, photographic exhibition centre and amphitheatre. The textured stone shell of the exterior opens to a colourful, soft, highly ornate interior. The majority of the interior space is sculpted into the ground to immerse visitors in the ambience of water and plantation. Designed to withstand flooding, its stage is a floating island of reeds.
