The Last Resort

Project details

Programme
Unit UG11
Year 2

As the Earth’s climate falls into a state of irreversible damage, humanity sets out in search of a new home, in this dimension or the next. Building on the complexities of theoretical physics, technological innovation and faith in survival, this project aims to address the lengths we may reach in order to prevail in a vastly shifting physical world.

Scientists turn towards the God particle (the Higgs boson) to pray for a second chance at survival, introducing a spiritual meaning into metaphysical and cosmological understanding. The project aims to address the bridge between science and the spiritual and to celebrate the hope that draws the two worlds together.

Conceptualising Narrative

The Last Resort, a black hole observation and engineering facility located in Greenwich Park, searches the scope of the known and unknown universe for a second chance at humanity’s survival.

Hybrid Drawing on Spatial Arrangement

Decoding spaces: utilising theories related to the information paradox that the universe’s answers lie on a black hole's event horizon, scientists use these spaces to decode answers to humanity’s survival.

Conceptual Plan

Set in Greenwich Park, home to the Old Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian Line, a focal point for themes relating to time, space and continuity.

Building Axonometric

Below, in the subterranean heart of Greenwich Park, sits the engineering facility of the Voyager, created to send life elsewhere. Above, the observatory angles its exploration skyward, decoding the nature of our own Sagittarius A*.
