A Special Place to Bond is located close to and inspired by Vauxhall City Farm by Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. The farm seeks to actively serve its community by facilitating meaningful interactions with animals. Hugging and petting cute and interesting animals can be a much-needed departure from the everyday by doing something special.
The proposal seeks to reintroduce the extravagance of the original Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. What if the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens had a shrine: some sort of special place for meaningful interactions or rituals? What if it was a festival of meaningful interactions? Of intimacy and closeness? An explosion in bonding that could act as a shining symbol, protesting the neglect of the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens and rallying bodies for its cause?
Vauxhall’s Special Place to Bond is a shrine that can facilitate an unprecedented festival of bodies that can rejuvenate a tired public garden. It is both a symbol and is symbolic. It is, and is a symbol of, the ultimate hug.
