The post office and 'Dead Letter' Museum houses an archive of both contemporary and historical postal exchange. Through hybrid digital-physical reconstruction, the building brings to light the space of these otherwise hidden – and often lost – histories, in a new immersive and surprising way.

The conventional digital three-dimensional scanning process is hacked to invent a creative tool resembling a spatial paintbrush.

By leveraging motion distortion and imperfections within the scanning process, the sensor can be deceived, enabling the recreation of hidden scenes concealed within a dead letter.

A superimposed environment is constructed based on the location of scanned architectural details, scouted from the source material, the dead letters.

Through the hybrid use of a mobile phone, this digital environment augments the physical space of the building, creating a captivating and immersive encounter for the visitor.

The absence permeating the letters’ words symbolises the inability to instantly traverse from one geographical location to another, highlighting the intangibility of written communication. Distance, absence, presence and emptiness are intertwined.
