A project with the ambition to renovate a series of underused garages behind Park Royal Station into compact, low-impact housing for the ‘new worker’ of London. With UG07 focused on the idea of a ‘civic façade’, Wickeryard uses a permanent scaffold frame to create a grid-like face, designed to be customised by the occupant with green space and other personal items.
The design is split into two: the ground floor being the original garage brickwork, reinforced by concrete buttresses that form small spaces both internally and externally. The first and second floors are built from a single timber unit, made to be as lightweight as possible. During the project, the London Housing Guide provided strict guidelines, with the project fulfilling the needs of a 2 bed 3 occupant living space in London.
