Crépissage of Hastings

Project details

Programme
Unit UG5
Year 2

I studied the Crépissage of Djenne in Mali, where locals annually restore a historic mosque's adobe walls. It signifies appreciation of valuable buildings. To support Hastings' festival scene, I designed an administrative centre. It will house a council of organisers, offer services including permits, marketing and logistics, and will include a performance space. The centre symbolises the gradual disintegration of materials, promoting restoration and sustainability. Hastings aims to streamline festival planning, strengthen the sector, and create a vibrant cultural environment.

Crépissage of Hastings: Long Section

Exploring internal environments of the festival hub.

Drawing Responding to 'Skyscrapers' (Eric De Mare)

Each student will start with an image or drawing from the selection at the end of the brief. Some of the drawings have strong links to Hastings, our site, others are more universal.
