Situated beside the famous Hastings’ fishing fleet, this project proposes a space that rejuvenates the past while providing a vision of Hastings’ future. The shipbreaking cluster focuses heavily on a narrative of time and collaboration between humans and machines. As a functional building, it provides employment and opportunity. As the final destination for broken boats, materials will be incinerated, releasing broken dreams, lives and memories. The bonfire will burn brightly under the night sky, and as the saying goes, it's a place where one’s life flashes before one’s eye.

Drawing Responding to 'Counter Production' (Henrik Olesen)
Each student started with an image or drawing from the selection provided by the brief. Some of the drawings had strong links to Hastings, our site, others were more universal.
