Situated in the formerly horticultural area of London, the building aims to revive the connection between nature and medical expertise to enhance the psychological state of the guests. Naturopathy will be used as a treatment to discourage drug use and emphasises the practice of natural therapy, such as herbal medicine and horticultural therapy.
The constantly changing focal points of the views will encourage curiosity and shape the sensory experience of the visitors by creating cognitive stimulation. These gradual changes will be caused by erosion and corrosion of the natural materials. The decay will be caused by environmental factors such as rain and will be controlled on different scales throughout the building.
Rammed earth will have a key role in bringing connection with nature into the built environment while allowing different atmospheres to emerge. The inclusion of copper will allow for decay and will shape the occupants’ sensations.
Front façade with incorporated copper fins and water-channelling groves.
Designed to plant sensuality by allowing natural deterioration of copper to take place, changing the atmosphere.
Testing intentional decay with the use of copper patination on rammed earth.
Garden with a crafted façade, developed by analysing the surrounding building features and morphing them into an eroding, water-channelling element.
