Just a stone’s throw away from the Hawley Wharf and a 3-minute walk down the canal from Camden Market lies the site of this project. Seeking to reclaim a part of Camden’s history, the proposal uses an original lock building and its empty courtyard that speak of the area’s industrial past. London is made by the people who work in the city and the project will provide the city’s workers with a spa where they can relax and unwind.
The main spa pool with a sponge laboratory facility in the middle, where the on-site sponges sold in-store and offered to spa users are created.
A plan showcasing all the spa pools within the building, as well as the entrance and layout of the entire site.
The final plan speaks to the history of Camden Town and its industrial past that still echoes through the area’s streets. In particular, Camden Market, where old canal warehouses can still be found.
This render showcases the old versus new idea, where the first floor of the existing canal warehouse is converted into a shop with a side extension that features the new formwork of my building.
The sponge lab acts as a resting space inspired by James Turrell’s Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
