This project uses self-build methods to reimagine laundrettes as communal spaces. It combines a laundrette with shared areas to encourage social interaction and make laundry time more engaging. Inspired by ‘Strayed Homes,’ the project merges private and communal spheres, fostering user interaction and creating an immersive ambience. The architectural design defines the boundary between public and private realms in Limehouse, London.
Building is located in the centre of a residential cluster, with four main entrances from all sides welcoming people in.
The programmes allow people to extend their home activities into the shared facilities of the 'augmented home' space.
The structural systems shown here explain how the building systems respond environmentally and socially to the Strayed Homes.
Street view from three different entrances, showing the view from outside looking into the centre of the shared laundry facility.
The design of the form allows for an optimisation of views, environmental control and socially supportive programming.
