Re – Dressing Florence

Project details

Programme
Unit PG21
Year 5

The design process has been disrupted dramatically with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) and one of its most evident applications is text-to-image-based image generation. Furthermore, this can be combined with current procedural and generative modelling methods, such as shape grammars and L-systems.

Notably, Mid-Journey is a generative software system capable of creating image art from textual descriptions. However, several questions become salient: can Mid-Journey offer more than seductive imagery, can it proactively contribute to concept development within a creative industry?

This research explores new design production methodologies through the lens of fashion and architecture, two creative professions that have a paradoxical relationship. They share many similarities with the key difference being the output scale.
The project uses text-to-image-based AI technology to create a new digital fashion collection and architectural design within the city of Florence. The combination of this AI technology and existing fabrication techniques in the fashion and architecture realms will aim to create a digital fashion collection and spatial architecture.
