Interstitial Grid, or Inter-Grid, is a typology-based masterplan for developing Venice’s future mythos in a phygital framework. Algal and chitin-based structures calcify into a vertical framing grid that envelops negative portions of the city. The masterplan is deployed by the community via a digital replica – Inter-Grid is not an incongruous system, instead a method to extract the typography of Venice from architecture and ecology via physical and digital intervention. Through this typography, a method of relieving the impact of the steadily rising waters of the lagoon is developed, while the digital replication and uploading of Venice allows for visitation through virtual methodologies, presenting new opportunities to the community of the city.
