This project is an auction house located on the River Thames near Tower Bridge. It aims to highlight the imbalances and inequalities within the art world. Too often, the artist is overshadowed by the dealer, and valuable artworks are relegated to storage in vaults. It also emphasises the legitimacy of artworks, as stolen artworks can find their way into auctions. In the floating bridge, the art market is returned to the people. The symbolic bridging of inequalities is portrayed by connecting the historically wealthier north bank, with its business district, to the more industrial south bank. The material aspect of this endeavor revolves around London clay, which is found on the shores of the Thames. Its properties as a building material are rigorously explored, while its potential therapeutic "muddying" properties are approached more hypothetically.
The drawing consists of 15 A2 drawings, each illustrating an individual part of the project.
A model of the whole bridge.
The section shows how the clay surrounds the steel members and explains the programme, with the artist sneaking into the auction.
Plan of central space.
Extruded clay pieces of various sizes form fragmented elements of the building.
