Regenerative Growth

Project details

Programme
Unit Unit 6
Year 3

In an age of waste and driven by the transformative power of innovation, Regenerative Growth aims to uncover the potential of plastic and reverse the tide of environmental destruction.

At the core of the project lies a revolutionary tube, inspired by Archimedes' screw, strategically placed in the River Thames. This design harnesses the natural flow of the river, extracting plastic waste from its depths and depositing it into the laboratory. Scientists and artists collaborate to reimagine the fate of this discarded material.

Plastic ceases to be a symbol of destruction and becomes a raw material bursting with possibilities. In the hands of visionary artisans, plastic is reborn as thought-provoking art installations, sculptures that defy expectations, and ethereal creations that challenge perception. Each masterpiece showcases the intrinsic beauty of plastic while forcing society to confront the consequences of its actions.

Through meticulous research and experimentation, the project delves into the potential of plastic, seeking sustainable alternatives, innovative applications, and groundbreaking solutions to the global waste crisis.

The Experience

Venturing through the underwater tube, one can experience the structure encapsulated by the Archimedes screw, which pulls plastic from the River Thames.

The Intervention

Adjacent to Westminster Bridge, the intervention can be viewed, featuring a tube that extends into the River Thames. The Archimedes screw pulls plastic from the river and deposits the waste into the main building.

Exploded Isometric of the Intervention

Illustrating the main components of the structure, the intervention can be viewed.

Section: Interaction of Spaces

The interactions between people and the space can be observed, as well as the relationship between the tube, galley, and laboratory.

A Collaboration with AI: A tool to Reimagine the Experience

The rendered spaces were reimagined through the lens of AI, utilising artificial intelligence as a tool to interpret spaces and experiences. This allows for an alternative perspective to be witnessed.
