Meridian Garden

Project details

Programme
Unit Unit 6
Year 3

Nestled amidst London's vibrant urban landscape, the visionary Meridian Garden project aims to transform the city's infrastructure and revitalise its declining high street. Rising above the River Thames, this architectural marvel connects the North and South of the city in a unique and innovative way.

At its core, the project features a bridge with a transport storey, seamlessly integrating the movement of people and goods with commercial activity. Above, two levels of lush gardens and repurposed pavilions transformed into vibrant shops create a dynamic space that blends commerce, nature, and community.

However, the Meridian Garden is more than just a functional structure; it symbolises London's proud heritage, crossing the Greenwich Meridian to unite the city's past with its future. It represents a bold vision for neglected East London, bridging communities and fostering unity.

The repurposed pavilions house shops, extending their life cycle and contributing to a sustainable built environment, embracing the concept of cradle to grave. The Meridian Garden is a testament to London's ambition, marrying functionality, beauty and sustainability in a transformative project.
