The modern world is marked by the rapid pace of human activities, with communication and socialisation increasingly occurring in virtual spaces rather than physical ones. This trend was amplified by the global pandemic, which forced people to rely on virtual interactions. Consequently, many cultures centered around time-intensive activities are being eliminated as people prioritise convenience and efficiency.
This phenomenon is evident at UCL, where students follow fast-paced routines that leave little time for socialising on campus. To counteract this trend and promote social cohesion among students and faculty, the proposed installation, Shades of Slowness, aims to revitalise tea culture and encourage a slower pace of life. Located at Wilkins terrace, the installation is designed to engage students in its construction, fostering a sense of community and encouraging them to slow down.
