Fluid Thresholds is a sensory installation that draws on familiarity in the city and textures inspired by the nature park to create a slow and attentive journey. It invites individuals to transition from the park to their everyday encounters, fostering a deeper connection to their surrounding environment. Through the use of irregular physical and audio textures, the installation creates sensations that demand attention, resulting in a more active role in the wider world.
The pond serves as a metaphor for understanding everyday urban experiences, which is characterised by distinct layers and blurred temporal boundaries that continuously interact with one another.
Located at the entrance/exit of the nature park, at the end of the field walk, the installation aims to facilitate the integration of lessons and experiences from the nature park into people's interactions with the wider city. The project views the boundaries between the human and non-human as fluid despite their contradictions.
Contour maps created 3D tactile balls that were then used to create impressions back into clay, transferring the texture from hand to foot.
It was important that people participated and understood the feel of air bubbles in clay, they way the material glides across itself and dissolves in water, the way it feels squishing between your toes.
