Colour Theory

Project details

Programme
Year 1

The project focuses on light and how it is perceived differently by the human eye depending on the subject at hand. The exploration revolves around a series of tests that examine how light affects the appearance of fruit and fish, as these were the readily available produce for observation. The aim is to determine which colors elicit the most pronounced reactions and effects on the food, and to experiment with various methods of showcasing those effects.

The project does not primarily aim to address a specific issue related to the chosen surplus. Instead, it seeks to shed light on this subject, as it is a common practice to use stage lighting and lighting gels to enhance the appeal, healthiness, and overall presentation of food. By tapping into human color associations and how the food industry markets its products, certain colours have become automatically associated with health (green), appetite (red), happiness (yellow), and cleanliness (white). Various industries leverage these associations to their advantage.
